Kominka, as a traditional home
Joy that transcends time and a change of location
The pine and crape myrtle trees in the garden, as well as the large stones in the bath, were relocated with the traditional home from the Kaga suburbs. When the former owner of the relocated home visited, they were so happy to see the traditional home transformed that it brought them to tears.
Letter from the Former Owner
"It was going to be torn down because of eminent domain for a road expansion, and I am overjoyed that new life was breathed into the old building to be reborn as a new culinary ryokan. I was also moved to tears that the trees from the garden were preserved on the ryokan’s grounds, and by how the house looked."
We want to pass on the warmth of traditional homes and the human warmth that goes with them to future generations.

On Culinary Ryokan Yamazaki's Opening after Renovations
A traditional home in the Kaga suburbs found a new place on the Echizen seacoast, and began a new life. Because it was an exceptional home that preserved the spirit of the Hokuriku region, it was a far cry from a typical house. As a marvelous building with a long history, but nowhere to go, its forlorn appearance seemed all the more touching.
How many years have passed since? There is no word for it but destiny. Perhaps it was hidden away from sight for Culinary Ryokan Yamazaki to find. Now, the transformed building standing on the Echizen seacoast is overflowing with joy, and I am certain of its future good fortune. I wish Culinary Ryokan Yamazaki and their thriving business all the best! Director Hironobu Furihata, Furihata Architectural Design Office
